About Ferrocarril Nacional General Urquiza

Ferrocarril Nacional General Urquiza was formed in 1948 as one of 6 state owned railway companies after the nationalisation of the mainly British and French railway lines.

In 1964 the fleet was transferred to the ownership of Empresa Ferrocarriles del Estado Argentino being the Argentine State Railways so presumably there was an amalgamation of the railway companies.

It also operated ferries up until 1979.

Flag

According to the book La Marina Mercante Argentina (1961) it used the State Ensign as a house flag [see image]. Normally I would have expected this flag to be actually used as an Ensign but as this is normally placed at the stern, photos of the ferries show that that there was no appropriate staff on which to fly the flag and instead was apparently [a flag can be seen flying but detail cannot be made out] flown from the main masts and as such could be classed as a house flag, but that is a moot point.
