The principal colors of the flag--blue, white, green, and yellow--are those
of the national flag and symbolize Quissamã's patriotism and unity with all
Brazil. In addition, they are given the following particular significance in the municipal flag:
Blue: the air and the tropical climate
White: the soil (presumably sand) of the littoral
Black: offshore petroleum deposits
Green: vegetation, especially the extensive pastures and sugar cane fields
Yellow: the sun, and the importance of its energy to the other elements
The composition depicts the rising of the sun from the maritime horizon, an
event observed daily on the beaches of the municipality, which also
symbolizes the dawn of the community of Quissamã. Source:Official municipal website Joseph McMillan, 30 July 2002
