The municipality of Fazenda Vilanova (3,697 inhabitants in 2010; 85 sq. km) is located in eastern central Rio Grande do Sul, 100 km of Porto Alegre. Fazenda Vilanova might have been named for an old estate ("fazenda") owned by the Vilanova family.
