The municipality of Ascurra (7,934 inhabitants in 2019; 11,167 ha) is located 200 km north-west of Florianópolis.
Ivan Sache, 31 October 2021
The flag of Ascurra is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 255 promulgated on 4
October 1976.
Article 1.
The municipal flag shall have the following
heraldic description; Gyronny blue and white, charged in the center with the
coat of arms of the municipality fimbriated sable.
Article 2.
The
municipal flag, in compliance with the best Luso-Brazilian heraldic tradition,
has the following rationale.
I - Gyronny, the flag's quadrilateral field is
divided into eight equal parts shaped like right-angled triangles, each named
gyron, by four rectilinear lines crossing each other in the center, two ot them
connecting the quadrilateral's angles, the two other vertical and horizontal,
both equidistant from the flag's edges.
II - Azure and white, considering
that the colors of an armored flag shall be the basic colors of the featured
municipal arms, in the blazon's natural order, azure (blue, with a shade
intermediate between Prussian blue and ultramarine blue), argent and or. Argent,
on the flags, is usually substituted by white, which matches it on the heraldic
chromatic scale. Accordingly, the upper gyron, at hoist, shall be blue, followed
by a white gyron, and so on.
III - Charged with the coat of arms of the
municipality prescribed by Law No. 170 promulgated on 7 December 1970, its outer
ornaments (mural crown and scroll) omitted, therefore restricted to the shield
proper, described in heraldic language as "A Portuguese shield, azure a tower
argent port and windows sable orled by a bishop's staff or in pale issuant from
the base". On the shield, argent shall also be substituted by white and or by
yellow, the matching heraldic shades on colored reproductions.
IV - Bordered
sable, meaning that the shield's field shall be outlined by a black line.
V -
Placed in the center, concealing the intersection of the lines forming the
gyronny.
Article 3.
The features of the municipal flag shall obey the
following rules.
I - The flag's width shall be 20 units.
II - The flag's
length shall be 28 units.
III - The shield's vertical axis shall match the
flag's vertical axis.
IV - The shield's upper border shall lie on an
imaginary line parallel to the flag's upper border, distant from 6 units.
V -
The shield's field, in compliance with the shield's usual format known as
Portuguese, shall be composed of a quadrilateral of 7 units in length on 5 units
in width, in base a semi-circle of 3.5 units in radius.
VI - The staff's
loop, ornaments excluded, shall be inscribed in two imaginary concentric
circumferences, whose center is distant of 3.5 units from the shield's upper
border and flanks. The radius of the external circumference shall be 2.7 units,
that of the internal circumference 2.3 units.
III (sic) - The width of the
staff's external ornamental lobes shall be 0.4 unit, their apex being located in
an imaginary circumference of 6.2 units in diameter, whose center is the same as
for the circumferences mentioned in the previous paragraph.
VIII - The
ornamental triple ring, between the staff's loop and main part, shall be
inscribed in an imaginary rectangle of 1.4 unit in base and 0.8 unit in width,
whose center shall be placed on the shield's vertical axis, distant of 7.6 units
from the shield's upper border. The central ring shall be of 0.4 unit in width,
the external one 0.2.
IX - The staff's main part shall be 0.4 unit in width.
X - The tower shall be inscribed in an imaginary regular trapezoid of 2 units in
base, 1.4 unit in upper edge and 3 units in width. The trapezoid's center shall
be distant of 3.5 units from the shield's flanks.
XI - The tower shall be
formed by 15 stone rows, each one of 0.2 unit in width.
XII - The tower's
apex, matching the stones' upper apex, shall be crenelated, with two crenels
between three merlons. Each merlon shall be of 0.3 unit in length and 0.2 unit
in width. Each crenel shall be 0.25 unit in length and 0.2 unit in width.
XIII - The tower's gate shall be inscribed in an imaginary rectangle of 0.4 unit
in base and 0.8 unit in width.
XIV - The tower has its edges outlined in
black. So are its profile, two windows and gates and the Episcopal staff's
outline.
XV - The shield's outline, black, shall be 0.1 unit in width.
