Municipality

The municipality of Rio Rufino (2,483 inhabitants in 2019; 28,257 ha) is located 190 km south-west of Florianópolis.

Rio Rufino is named for farmer Rufino Pereira, who moved his crops from Cedrinho (today, Urupema) to a place with more fertile soil and better climate.
The municipality of Rio Rufino was established by State Law No. 8,491 promulgated on 12 December 1991.
