The municipality of Três Fronteiras (5,427 inhabitants in 2010; 15,310 ha) is located in northwestern São Paulo State, 630 km of São Paulo.

Três Fronteiras was founded on 12 October 1947 by Mário Bretas Saraiva and José Manoel Ferreira. Originally known as Marcondes Filho, the town was subsequently renamed Três Fronteiras (Three Borders), being at the time the ultimate municipality in northwestern São Paulo State, on the borders with Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais. The district of Três Fronteiras was established by Decree-Law No. 233 of 24 December 1948 and inaugurated on 8 May 1950. Made of parts of the municipality of Jales, Três Fronteiras was incorporated to the municipality of Santa Fé do Sul by Law No. 2,456 of 30 December 1953. The municipality of Três Fronteiras was established by Law No. 5,285 of 18 February 1959.

The symbols of Três Fronteiras are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 101 of 5 March 1963.

The flag is "Gules (red), argent (white), azure (blue), with respective height of 45 cm, 46 cm, and 42 cm and a common length of 184 cm. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms."

The coat of arms is "A modern shield surmounted by a four-towered mural crown representing a municipality, a chief vert charged with a winged cog wheel argent, the field per fess, 1. Argent three bends vert, 2. Azure a torch argent flamed or, a bordure gules. The shield supported dexter by a branch of coffee and sinister by a plant of cotton the two fructed proper. Beneath the shield a scroll argent inscribed with the municipality's name in letters azure."

The cog wheel and the wing represents the commerce and industry born of the purity and integrity of the people of Três Fronteiras. Vert is a symbol of respect of legal prescriptions The three bends recall the name of the town and the features of its fertile and diversified soil allowing the production of different crops. Azure is the symbol of the permanent vigilant exerted by the people and constituted powers of Três Fronteiras to defend the rights of their birth town and to respect justice, liberty and the rights of the citizens of the town and of the neighbouring ones. The flaming torch represents the modus vivendi of the people. The bordure gules recalls the intrepidity and the valiance of the first inhabitants, who built, with honour and valour, a place labour and integrity in a remote Paulista area. The supporters represent the main crops grown in the municipality, emphasizing the fertility and power of its soil.

The two aforementioned Laws are included (verbatim) in Municipal Law No. 1,004 of 5 June 2006 "consolidating the municipal legislation on the monuments, the municipal museum, honours [medals], titles, symbols and related material".
