Apparently originally a summer village founded on April 1, 1977.

From the Chestermere Anchor news site:

The Town of Chestermere's beginning was approximately in 1884 when men of vision recognized the value of the body of water as a source for an irrigation system. These early [C.P.R. - Canadian Pacific Railway] pioneers had visions of what irrigation would mean to the lives of the people. The building of the headworks of an irrigation water supply was the birth of Chestermere Lake.

On March 1, 1993. the Town of Chestermere was incorporated. The Town of Chestermere is a new municipality, located approximately 20 minutes from the City of Calgary's center core via the TransCanada Highway.

Chestermere is a fairly new town that recently popped up just off the TransCanada Highway, on the west shore of Chestermere Lake, a reservoir lake, about 30 km east of Calgary.

This flag clearly echoes the Alberta provincial flag - a blue field with a town logo in the centre. Chestermere's main claim to fame is the Chestermere Lake, popular with sailors. It also has a reputable golf course. Interestingly the logo shows an impossible scene from Chestermere, as any view of the lake, golf course and mountains would be from the east shore of the lake (not in Chestermere)!

Note that the Town Council's web site uses a different font for the words "CHESTERMERE" and "ALBERTA" in the logo on its home page.

The background colour of the Town of Chestermere flag was changed from white in March 2005, "to match the current town pin, with a slightly brighter blue". On 06 June 2005, there was further discussion of the Town Flag, when it was agreed by councillors to phase out its promotional items in the teal colour, to use blue in future and to send the flags back to the company that created them and ask them "to develop a flag in the colors that were approved by Council".
