Description of the flag

The Town of Minitonas, Manitoba (approximate population: 590) is known to have some of the friendliest people in this province. The municipality's name comes from an aboriginal word meaning "isolated hill", a reference to the hills located to the South of this community and Duck Mountain Provincial Park. The agricultural heritage of the region is reflected in the dominate display of a sunflower on the flag. According to the Mayor, Henry Barkowski, this flag was publicly displayed officially on July 1, 2007.

The flag was designed by Clayton Hadiken-Hyra, a student in the Advertising Art Program at the Swan Valley Regional School.

The official flower of Minitonas is the sunflower and our official colours are green, white and gold.

The sunflower was chosen as it is symbolic oft the hardiness and cheerfulness of our residents.
