It is possible that this flag is canting, since according to my dictionary
"dürr" when applied to wood means "dead" and the word for
an ash-tree is "Esche," so, allowing for either sloppy orthography or
a deliberate pun, that may be a raguly section of a dead ash tree in the lion's
paws.
