The item on the flag of Sulz is a Salzbottich, a tank to hold salt.  The salt-tub makes this flag canting.

The website of Sulz is at They describe it as: "Das Wappen der Gemeinde Sulz zeigt in Rot einen schwarzen mit silber beschlagenen und mit einem silbernen S bedeckten Salzbottich, beseitet von je einem sechsstrahligen weissen Stern." I translate that as "Gules a between two mullets of six argent a Salt-tub Sable bearing
bands and a letter S of the second."
