In principle, the flag of San Bernardo consists of a Tricolor Horizontal Tertiate design flag with light blue, yellow and red stripes that carries the municipal coat of arms in the center. The stripes are arranged in a ratio of 1:1:1, that is, they are the same size within a flag in a 2:3 ratio, in the manner of the national flag. Steffan Giadach Axt, 19 January 2023
Located in the eastern sector of the commune of San Bernardo, the population of 5 Pinos is characterized by the coexistence of residential and industrial sectors, among which the railway line is a relevant element along with the other terrestrial communication routes present in the population. The community is also characterized by its social relations to the extent of the organization of solidarity events that help both the residents of the community as well as reinforce the identity of the inhabitants of the population.
Due to the above, one of the important symbols of the community of 5 Pinos consists of its own flag that becomes a great exponent of community vexillology both for the Metropolitan Region as well as for the development of vexillology in Chile.
Initially, in use since 2015, the flag of the town of 5 Pinos consists of a mast design flag with a white field and a green triangle towards the pole. In the center, five green pine trees are arranged in 2-1-2 order to thus form five symbols with equivalent separation.
Regarding the origin, in conversation with the president of the Neighborhood Council of 5 Pinos, Mr. Eduardo Zúñiga, he points out that the creator of the flag is Mr. Orlando Ortiz, based on the premise that a flag was missing to represent the population. In the words of the president, "it is a flag that visually allows us to understand the community to be represented if we consider that the majority of the inhabitants are satisfied with the existence and use of it and that due to this it is common to see it displayed in events of the population as the commemoration of its foundation between September 16 and 18."
