The Carabineros de Chile were established on 27 April 1927, but trace their origins "back to night watchmen such as the Dragones de la Reina (Queen's Dragoons) which were created in 1758 and renamed the Dragones de Chile (Dragoons of Chile) in 1812; and other organizations that fulfilled functions such as the watch and local policing. The Carabineros are the national police force of Chile. Carabinero can be translated to English as Carabineer or Rifleman. The text on the flag means "Carabineers of Chile" and "Order and Homeland." Alex Garofolo, 2 February 2014
