Presentation of Požega

Požega is a town near Užice in central western Serbia. When there is possibility of confusing it with some other city of the same name (like [Slavonska] Požega in Croatia) the name is given as Užička Požega, though I do not think that it was ever official.

Flag of Požega

The symbols of Požega were recently adopted, as confirmed by Dragomir Acović.

The flag of Požega is quartered blue and red with a white cross overall and over its center a white fimbriated blue disc with a yellow cross throughout.

Coat of arms of Požega

[Coat of arms of Pozega]by Dragomir Acović

The coat of arms of Požega has an other charge in the blue disk, oriental scales, locally known as kantar.

A similar kind of scales is frequent on the markets in the south of France. It is called in French romaine or balance romaine (lit., Roman scales). According to Grand Robert de la Langue Française, the name of romaine appeared in the XVth century as romanne and romman, from ancient Provencal or Spanish romana, itself from Arabic rumannah, pomegranate and later weight; eventually confused with romaine, Roman.
