The village Vrane nad Vltavou is situated on the right Vltava riverside south from the capital Prague and consists of two hamlets
called Skochovice and Vrane. It is spread on the area of 416 ha in the hilly landscape of the Central Bohemian Highland. The
lowest point of the village lays in the eastern part at the ferry in the elevation of 190 m, the highest point is in the south at the
village Brezova in the elevation of 330 m. The village has roughly 1,700 inhabitants in 440 houses.

Both the villages are reminded in the deed of the Czech prince Boleslav II who gave them to the new established Brevnov
monastery as a source of living in 993 A.D. Since that time they had been possessed by many subjects, for the longest period
by the Zbraslav monastery, i.e. till the year 1848 when the serfdom was abolished. Since the end of the last century the villages
have been united under the name Vran-Skochovice. During centuries the inhabitants lived from fishing, pottery and agriculture.
In 1836 the paper mill was built which employed most of local inhabitants and brought development of the village. Since the end of the last century, when the railway Praha-Dobris/Cercany has been running, another possibility of work has appeared, especially in the near-by Modrany. In 1936 the newly established hydro-electric power station has begun to work.
