Kühlenthal Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a kingcup Or with two blossoms, base Argent charged with a fess embattled Azure.
The base displays the arms of the Marshals of Dornsperg (Donnersberg). They had been marshals and stewards of the Bishopric of Augsburg. Since 1245 they called themselves (Lords of) Kühlenthal, the name of their castle. In 1361 Susanna of Kühlenthal and her son Sifrid sold the Lordship of Kühlenthal to Marquard of Randeck, Bishop of Augsburg (ca.1300 - 1381). The lordship remained a possession of the bishopric until 1803. The kingcup (Latin: Caltha palustris) is representing the local landscape.

The arms were approved on 6 June 1961 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. The banner in Bavarian colours white and blue had never been approved officially.
