Falkenstein Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a falcon statant Or with spread wings on top of a triplemount Sable.
Meaning:
Falkenstein developed beneath the namesake castle and was called a market town since the 15th century. The first seal known by a print from 1514 already displayed the current arms on a Spanish shield. So did all later seals. The arms are canting, displaying a falcon (German:Falke) on a mount (German: Berg). The first coloured painting, made by Philipp Apian around 1562 displayed falcon and mount as silver, probably referring to the Wittelsbach kin as ruler since 1514. The tinctures changed frequently during the 19th century and a sometimes a red cap or red jingles were added arbitrarily to the bird as equipment for falconry.
