Rögling Coat of Arms

Shield Sable a needle Or, superimposing a bend chequered of Argent and Gules.
The Cistercian bend is alluding to the Cistercian Kirchheim Nunnery, which was founded by Count Ludwig III of Oettingen and his sons before 1270. The nunnery became the nunnery of the kin and gained the right of patronage over the church of Rögling in 1368. The needle belongs to a sewing machine and is referring to the guild of needle makers. The production of needles was an important business line until the 19th century and had been the reason that Rögling gained the status of a market town in the 15th and 16th century. In 1805 there had been more than 100 master craftsmen of that business in the village and their needles were exported to all parts of the world. The village produced around 50,000,000 needles for all purposes every year. Due to industrialisation the business line disappeared.
