Stadtroda Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a castle Gules masoned Sable with port and windows of the same, a broad embattled central tower and two towers with cone roofs on either side.
Meaning:
In 1247 the Lords of Lobdeburg founded a Cistercian Nunnery. Besides the nunnery a settlement developed, which was called a city in 1333. In the same year Stadtroda was acquired by the Counts of Schwarzburg, in 1396 by the Wettin kin. A city council was mentioned in 1403, a mayor in 1434. The city gained the low level cognisance in 1556 and the high level cognisance finally in 1574. The city became a possession of the Ernestine branch of the kin in 1485, of Sachsen-Altenburg in 1603, of Sachsen-Gotha in 1672, of Sachsen-Eisenberg in in 1680 and finally again of Sachsen-Altenburg, where it remained until 1918. The name of the city had been Roda since 1482. The current name was adopted in 1925. The arms are based on a city seal from the 15th century. In the 17th century the outer towers were connected by a rainbow, caused by a misinterpretation of the rim of the seal. The old pattern was restored in 1939.
