"The flag of the municipality Messingen is one of red and, lengthways rectangular cloth  touched yellowly three times horizontally, length to height like 5:3; on the front third  line covered with the municipality coat of arms which partly covers the red stripes.
*A "Samtgemeinde" (SG*), also called "collective municipality" is a combination of several municipalities to an administrative community  in Lower Saxony.
