Dornstetten Coat of Arms

Shield Or, under an attire Sable in fess a thorn bush Sable.
Meaning:
Count Heinrich II of Urach-Fürstenberg granted city rights to Dornstetten around 1270. The 1st city seal with prints from 1283 displayed the founder's family arms, an eagle surrounded by a bordure of vair. When the Counts of Württemberg acquired the city in 1320/1323, the seal only displayed the attires of Württemberg. Until 1450 the shield was surrounded by the canting thorn branches (German: Dornenzweige). The current pattern appeared first in seals from the 16th century and in the roll of arms of Siebmacher (1605). A painting from 1535 and one of Merian (1643) only displayed three crossed thorn branches.
