Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue - yellow - blue vertical triband with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the central stripe.

Description of coat of arms:
The blue shield is divided by a golden (=yellow) pale on the dexter half. On the sinister half above is a golden (= yellow) griffin's head tongued red and below three rectangles of the same colour ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The rectangles are symbolizing bricks and their production in the region. The griffin is symbolizing the Lordship of Rostock and the pale is symbolizing River Warnow.
