Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue - yellow - blue vertical triband with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the central stripe.

Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
The blue shield is divided by a golden (=yellow) pale on the dexter half. On the sinister half above is a golden (= yellow) griffin's head tongued red and below three rectangles of the same colour ordered 2:1.
The rectangles are symbolizing bricks and their production in the region. The griffin is symbolizing the Lordship of Rostock and the pale is symbolizing River Warnow.

Flag and coat of arms were approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 18 November 2004, published in the roll of arms of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania as no. 0292.
