Tettau Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a vase with a arched handles Argent, at sinister Argent three keys Gules in triangle, chief quartered of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
The current municipality was established in 1978 by a merger of Kleintettau, Langenau and Tettau proper. The keys are taken from the arms of the Lords of Heimburg, who acquired in 1480 the Lordship of Lauenstein, to which Langenau belonged since 1427. The base is taken from the arms of Kleintettau and is alluding to the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Kleintettau was founded in 1661 according to plan. The margraves allowed forest clearances and the building of residental houses and a glass kiln to an inhabitant of Tettau and a glassblower from Thüringen. The vase is taken from the former arms of Tettau and is alluding to the local production of china and glass. The colours are those of the Lords of Thünau, who had been lords of the castle in Lauenstein between 1506 and 1622. The had also built a castle in Tettau.
