Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield with a narrow silver (=white) bordure is a silver (= white) upright key.
Meaning:
According to source the key is the symbol of St. Peter. Rees gained city rights in 1228, they were granted by Heinrich von Müllenark, archbishop of Kö ln. The first seals showed St. Peter, the patron saint of Köln. In the 14th century the present arms appeared first.
