Altfraunhofen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, above Gules a pale Argent, beneath Or a double headed eagle Sable.
Meaning:
The blazon does not mention the red claws, the beak however is black. The eagle is referring to the status of being under direct imperial rule (Reichsunmittelbarkeit), which however had never been acknowledged by Bayern until the end of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806. The upper half displays the family arms of the Lords of Fraunhofen, who ruled the Free Imperial Lordship of Fraunhofen, which was divided into Altfraunhofen and Neufraunhofen since 1409.
