Ellrich Coat of Arms

Shield chequered of Gules and Argent.
The village was first mentioned in 876 and was upgraded to a town in 1229 and to a city in 1292. The village originally was a possession of the Counts of Klettenberg, later of the Counts of Hohnstein (1254 - 1593), in 1648 of Prussia together with the Bishopric of Halberstadt. The arms were granted in 1292 on occasion of the elevation to a city by Dietrich II and Heinrich III, the sons of Count Heinrich II of Hohnstein. The shield displays the family arms of the Counts of Hohnstein.
