Salzweg Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend sinister, above right Argent a salt barrel Gules, beneath Gules a fleur-de-lis Or between two bends Argent.
Meaning:
The salt barrel is a canting element and referring to the location alongside the salt road between Passau and Bohemia and had been the most important business line between the 11th and the 18th century. The fleur-de-lis is an attribute of St. Mary and is alluding to the Benedictine Niedernburg Nunnery, which had been an important local manorial lord and basically had been owner of the local Taferne district (Bavarian: Hofmark). The bends are referring to the Lords of Urleinsberg, who had also been important local manorial lords until the end of the 14th century. The tinctures red and white are those of the Bishopric of Passau, to which the village historically belonged.
