Bräunlingen Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a lion rampant Gules.
Meaning:
The Counts of Fürstenberg, local rulers since 1283 granted city rights in 1295. The city was a dominion of Austria from 1305 until 1805. Inbetween in the first quarter of 15th century it had been even a Free Imperial City. The mayor had been chosen by the citizens and was approved since 1576 by the Archdukes of Austria, and since 1685 by the Emperor himself. The first seal with prints from 1305 already displayed a lion, which can only be that one of the Habsburg kin. Sometimes the lion is displayed as armed Azure or double queued. The current version is based on an architectural sculpture from 1733.
