Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a red over yellow horizontal bicolour with centred arms. The local Hauptsatzung only mentions colours red and yellow.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted per pale, at dexter Gules a lion rampant Or, at sinister Or tow bars Gules with damascene ornaments Sable.
Meaning:
The combination of both elements was first used by Count Christian von Oldenburg on his seal from 1418. The arms were adopted on the seal of the former Butjadingen municipality, established in 1933. When the municipality was dissolved in 1948, the arms were approved to Burhave on 29 January 1949. When the new Butjadingen municipality was created in 1974, the arms were overtaken by that municipality. The arms were approved in 1974.
