Overview

The parish of Aguas Negras (1,463 inhabitants in 2010; 45,396 ha) was established on 22 July 1998.

The Flag

The flag of Aguas Negras is horizontally divided white-yellow-green with a black triangle placed along the hoist and charged with a white star, and the parish's coat of arms in the yellow stripe.

The coat of arms of Aguas Negras features the local landscape, with the river (Spanish: Black Waters) that gave its name to the parish. In the upper right part, the oil derrick recalls that oil extraction, initiated in the 1970s, fostered the development of the area.
