Presentation of Maguilla

The municipality of Maguilla (970 inhabitants in 2018; 9,790 ha; municipal website) is located 140 km south-east of Badajoz and 30 km south-west of Llerena.
Maguilla was, according to Ortiz de Thovar, established by Moors from Málaga, as Malaguilla. The village was ruled by the Order of Saint James until the 16the century, to be incorporated in 1640 to Llerena and eventually granted the status of villa on 6 June 1749 by Philip V.

Flag of Maguilla

The flag (photo) and arms of Maguilla, adopted on 23 July 1992 and 26 February 1993 by the Municipal Council and validated on 24 November 1992 and 23 March 1993 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 24 February 1993 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 30 March 1993 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 38, pp. 922-924 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, composed of three vertical stripes, green, white, and blue, the white stripe twice longer, charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1a.Gules a warrior's helmet argent, 1b. Vert a bunch of spikes vert, 2. Argent a cross of the Order of Saint James gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
