Introduction

The municipality of Pozán de Vero (257 inhabitants) is located on the left bank of river Vero, 60 km east of Huesca, in a wine-producing area. The village was mentioned for the first time (as Pozsant) in a 1095 document of King Peter I, and took its current name in 1543.

Description

"Diario de Alto Aragón" reports on 5 May 2008 the official unveiling of the flag and arms of Pozán de Vero, completing the adoption process initiated in September 2004.

Alberto Montaner, born in Pozán de Vero and Secretary of the Chair "Barón de Valdeolivos" of the "Institución Fernando El Católico" explains the meaning of the new symbols as follows:

"After several sketches, we adopted a V-shaped partition of the shield, to represent river Vero. In the lower part are blue bells – in heraldic language, "vero" (vair), and the upper part is green as a symbol of the fields and the vegetal fertility permitted by the river; we also added one of the fleurs-de-lis that are shown on the shield placed on the gate of the parish church."

From the photograph of the partially unfurled flag shown by the source, the flag of Pozán de Vero can be reconstructed as a field vair with a green triangle charge with a fleur-de-lis.
