Description

The ensign for ships of the Naval Reserve (Reserva Naval, hence RN) was adopted by an Order of 28 September 1939, published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado no. 272, 29 September 1939, p. 5414. The Naval Reserve was made up of merchant ships which ocassionally transported goods or troops for the State or the Navy. While transporting them, they had to fly this ensign.

According to the said Order, the blue 'RN' letters should be as high as the yellow stripe:

Esta bandera será igual a la de la Marina de Guerra con las letras R. y N. en azul, una a cada lado del escudo y de las dimensiones de la franja amarilla.
Flaggenbuch 1939 shows quite smaller letters. The image above follows the specifications in the 1945 regulation.
