Introduction

The serial is about a future Earth where oceans have been colonized and divided among a number of different and somewhat independent states. The "somewhat" there is due to the existence of the UEO, the United Earth Oceans, a post-UN type of organization, a mix of global police force and global government. The Seaquest itself is a submarine, belonging to the UEO, extremely high-tech and nearly unbeatable. Flags are a common sight in the show (since political meanders between the various entities take a good part of the action), being the flag of the UEO the commonest of them all.

United Earth Oceans

The flag of the UEO is typical UN: a complex symbol in the center of a plain blue background.
Jorge Candeias, 3 March 2001

It was a circular logo featuring a golden trident.

This had nothing to do with the white on blue Seaquest logo: That was simply the symbol of the submarine itself, and (quite believably) all the flags of nations and/or organizations had their own symbols. In any case, take this with a grain of salt. It's been a while.

Montagnard Confederation

It's the flag of the Montagnard Confederation, a state of south-east Asia. It's hard to know exactly where it lies, since no maps are given, but the physical type of the leaders and the flag itself make good hints. It's in Indochina, probably occupying the whole or parts of Vietnam and of maybe nearby states as well. The flag is yellow with 4 horizontal red stripes along the central third of the flag and a black star superimposed on the stripes, also in the center. Pretty good vex object, if I might add…

It sure reminds me of the old South-Vietnamese flag.
