Introduction

Sandokan is a TV Series from 1976, if you remember that one. It was very popular. There were comic books as well and they even did a radio novel back in the 70's.

Sandokan appears in the novel "The Tigers of Mompracem" by Salgari.

The flag hoisted at the pirates' island of Mompracem, is red with the head of a tiger in the center.

It's similar to the Tamil Tigers' flag.

Other versions of the flag can be seen at Zona Cinema and at Flagsonline. The description at the latter translates to: "The flag of Sandokan. In fact, the red flag with the head of a tiger in the centre, the emblem of Sandokan in the novels of Emilio Salgari, is actually the flag of Osman Syarif Marudu (Malludu), a real person who fought against the British colonial presence. Malludu is remembered as the birthplace of Sandokan in the novel "The Tigers of Mompracem". Mompracem appears on ancient maps – located in the immediate vicinity of Labuan and Brunei."
