The municipality of Vyronas (61,308 inhabitants in 2011; 920 ha), is a suburbs located southeast of Athens. The town is named after George Gordon Byron (1788-1824), 6th Baron Byron, the famous English poet and writer. A national hero of Greece, Lord Byron travelled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek War of Independence. He died from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi.
The municipality was not changed with the 2011 local government reform.
