The municipality of Vyronas (61,308 inhabitants in 2011; 920 ha), is a suburbs located southeast of Athens. The town is named after George Gordon Byron (1788-1824), 6th Baron Byron, the famous English poet and writer. A national hero of Greece, Lord Byron travelled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek War of Independence. He died from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi.
The municipality was not changed with the 2011 local government reform. Olivier Touzeau, 3 August 2013
The new municipal flag appears to be a variation on the previous flag, using a different portrait of Lord Byron centered on the same dark red field, removing the yellow inner border, and adding the municipality's name beneath the portrait. Randy Young, 28 July 2024
The flag of Vyronas (Kokkonis website) is Burgundy red with an inner yellow border, and the seal of the municipality (a portrait of Lord Byron) on the center-hoist part. Olivier Touzeau, 3 August 2013
