Presentation of Vrbnik

The municipality of Vrbnik (1,245 inhabitants in 2001, 944 in the village of Vrbnik) is located in the eastern part of the Krk island, opposing Novi Vinodolski on the mainland. Apart from tourism, Vribnik is well-known for a high quality white wine produced there, called žlahtina. Some of the best restaurants on the Adriatic Sea are there, too.

Flag of Vrbnik

The symbols of Vrbnik are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Općine Vrbnik (text), adopted on 23 March 1998 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 10 July 1998 in the County official gazette Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 14.
The Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Vrbnik, adopted on 29 September 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 10 October 2001 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 24, describe the symbols. So do the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Vrbnik, adopted on 8 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 7 August 2009 in Službene novine Primorsko-goranske županije, No. 31.

The symbols were designed by Zdravko Tišljar, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, also one of the initiators of the Vrbnik Graphic Academy project - a summer school of graphic arts (Vrbnićki vidici, No. 6, June 1998), and approved on 9 June 1998 by the Ministry of Administration.

The flag is in proportions 1:2, yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.

Coat of arms of Vrbnik, modern and historic versions - Images by Željko Heimer, 12 August 2003

The coat of arms pictures St. John holding a lamb and the Easter flag in its left hand all argent, in base on both his sides kneeling kapari (monks) and in the chief dexter a mullet or.
The design is based on the historical coat of arms, with some heraldic flaws corrected; thus the initials "S.I." were omitted and replaced by a single six-pointed golden mullet, to represent the historic Frankopan family (Vrbnićki vidici, No. 6, June 1998).
