The coat of arms of Sibinj is described in Article 3 of the aforementioned Decision as fllows:

In a semi-circular shield, in blue a silver-white displayed pelican, with golden-yellow beak, feeds with its blood (three red drops) three young silver-white birds, in a golden yellow nest.

The heraldic figure of the "pelican in her piety" symbolizes sacrifice and compassion, referring here to the Sibinj victims. The figure represents a pelican, wounding herself on breasts with her beak, feeding its youngs with her own blood, according to a medieval legend. As such it became symbol of sacrifice and then also of Jesus Christ, through his sacrifice on the cross.

In an interview on Radio Slavonija (text), the Mayor expained how the municipal administration cooprated with the Ministry of Administration and the State Archives in making of the symbols, agreeing that the Sibinj victims should be represented, and eventually choosing the pelican figure. The Mayor also stated that the "people form the Croatian State Archives even told me that they are a bit jealous and surprised that none of the 450 units of local self-government had remembered the symbolic of the pelican..."
