Irish White Flag Award

The White Flag Award, is aimed at sports halls, fitness studios, health suites, spas, gyms, and swimming pools and was developed by The Institute of Leisure & Amenity Management Ltd (ILAM). It is a Quality award with key criteria classified under a number headings including facility interior, exterior & grounds; staff training and qualifications, disability access and provision, swimming pool hygiene; operations; environmental management; water quality and treatment and education information. Each leisure facility must have safe and easy access, qualified and trained staff, good health & safety procedures, follow industry codes of practice, are also imperative for the White Flag. By following White Flag criteria, making some necessary changes, a leisure facility can reach a very high standard, offering the best possible service, without resorting to major structural changes. The Institute of Leisure & Amenity Management is an Irish organization developing activities in support of organized leisure, founded in 1989 and relaunched in 2006. Established at Clane (Kildare), it is much involved in promoting good practices through the White Flag Awards. Quote from www.whiteflag.ie, ‘Information / About the White Flag’ (addressing management people):

“The White Flag Award is the quality mark that all leisure facilities must strive to achieve. The White Flag Award highlights to your customers, staff and the general public that your organisation is committed to achieving the highest standards of quality in the Leisure Industry. Launched in 2001, the White Flag Award is an independently audited award, recognised throughout the Leisure Industry, endorsed by Fáilte Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation.”
A list of 2007 awardees (you apply for a WF and may be granted one) is found here providing an impressive number of photos showing a *picture* of a flag: http://www.whiteflag.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=28

The flag is a white field bearing a logo consisting of a blue disk the lower part of which is filled in by two arched stripes, following the disk’s rim and defined by blue holding lines, plus a little white disk (in the centre of the blue one) above them.
