The Flag

The city emblem was adopted on June 8th 1928 by the Prefecture Notice No. 25 but there is no flag law.
It is a green flag charged with white city emblem in the center. The flag proportion is 2:3.
The city emblem is composed of a stylized kanji 田 TA, Yadome (arrow) and the mark. The Yadome is another name of the former Akita clan, lord of the Sakata’s castle.

Specifications

After an email exchange with Mr. Yudai Sato of the Akita City General Affairs Section of the General Affairs Department, he has given me the following specifications for the city flag;
Munsell Colors: 4.0GY 7.0/10.5 (variants of the hue (10 Y to 6.5 GY), lightness (7.0 to 6.0) and saturation (8.0 to 11.0) could be used.
Ratio: 2 x 3 ratio with the emblem being 3/5th of the width of the flag. This is similar to the national flag. This ratio was made official in 2016.
Flag size: 140 x 200 cm for the big flag, 70 x 100 cm for the smaller flag.
Emblem: The diameter of the ring is 1.212 cm (email stated radius of 0.606 cm) with respect to the diameter of 7.27 cm, the diameter of the center circle is 1.2121 cm The width of the feather is 1.2121 cm in a wide place, 0.909 cm in a narrow place. For oblique lines, it is an angle of 30 degrees with respect to the horizontal line.

Mr. Sato also mentioned that the city flag was adopted on July 12, 1978, and it formerly had the ratio of 7 x 10. This was changed to match the change of the national flag in 1999. Zachary Harden, 12 and 13 December 2017
