Flag

Located in Fukuoka City Fukuoka Prefecture and established in 1911. The university flag has maroon background with a white symbol-logo in the center. The symbol-logo of Kyushu University dates back to 1949. A public call for designs for a student badge was held, and 153 submissions were received from 70 students. Many of the entries were based on pine trees, leaves, pine bulbs, and bark, indicating that the pine grove that stretched from the hospital area to the Hakozaki area at the time was still fresh in the minds of many students. After a screening committee consisting of equal numbers of school and student committee members was held to consider the proposal, a design with a motif of pine leaves and kanji ""?"university by Yoshihide Mune, then a third-year student in the Department of Agricultural Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Agriculture, was adopted. This symbol logo was to be used from February 10, 1950. In 2003, with a view to registering the symbol logo of Kyushu University as a trademark, the original symbol logo, which had a tradition of about half a century, was redesigned by Professor Masaru Sato, then Special Assistant to the President, and a new symbol logo was created. This is the symbol logo currently in use. However, this symbol logo does not restrict the use of the original symbol logo . The original symbol logo was difficult to register because of its uneven line thickness and hand-drawn distortion while in the current symbol logo, consideration has been given to carrying on the original image, while at the same time ensuring that the image is clear and vivid even when visualized.
