Located in Nagasaki City Nagasaki Prefecture and established in 1949.
The university flag has blue background (DIC 183) with a white logo mark in the center and the university name in white kanji and English written horizontally. The formal ceremonial flag is the university flag decorated in gold fringe.
In 1949, the previous mark was established as a symbol to enhance the sense of solidarity among the members of the university and as a source of inspiration for its development as a university, with the initials NU (Nagasaki University) on the bow of a Dutch ship associated with Nagasaki, a gateway to culture during the period of national isolation, and the kanji word "大學" on the right shoulder.
Since the exact design of the mark is currently unclear, they have refined it, added some movement to the previous mark, and established it as a symbol of the newly launched Nagasaki University National University Corporation.
