Flag

Located in Bunkyo City Tokyo and established in 1946. The university flag has blue background with a gold symbol mark in the center. The symbol mark was designed to resemble a plum flower, the symbol of the god of learning, in reference to the location of the university, Yushima. The words of the plum flower are "patience" and "severe beauty. The plum blossoms symbolize the movement to carry out our mission as medical professionals. The five plum petals also symbolize the five departments of the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, College of Liberal Arts, Institute for Bio-materials and Bio-engineering, and Research Institute for Intractable Diseases joining forces to heal and brighten human lives. In addition, the outer petals are thickened to express the intent to make unlimited strides toward the future, thereby incorporating a sense of dynamism. Blue represents the knowledge of the mission, the responsibility to face life, the noble aspiration as a medical professional, the sense of mission, and the strength to carry out the mission. Gold represents the healing of the mission and shows the joy of saving lives, noble aspirations, the radiance of people born of a sense of mission, and the warmth of caring. Blue and gold are the university colors.
