Kazakhstan is divided into 17 regions (Kazakh: oblysy), 4 cities which are administered separately from their surrounding geographic regions.
The regions are subdivided into counties (Kazakh: audany).
The counties are further subdivided into rural districts.

Astana city (Astana qalasy) - formerly Nur-Sultan, the capital city of Kazakhstan
Baikonur city (Baiqoñyr qalasy) - city is currently being leased to Russia along with Baikonur Cosmodrome until 2050
Shymkent city (Şymkent qalasy)
