Espel is a village in the Noordoostpolder, Flevoland province, some kilometers
north of Urk. Its flag can be admired on this
webpage.
My description: white with a blue cross; in the first quadrant a brightblue
wave interrupted by two white waves; 2. a red disk charged with a black
and white compassrose; 3. three black flying birds placed 2,1; 4. three
cornears, bound by a ribbon, all black (outlined).
Espel was the name of a village on the former island of Urk, which was
reclaimed by the sea in de Middle Ages. On the village
homepage one can read:
In 1956 the building of the villlage of Espel was started. Espel
was and still is a flourishing community with a present population of 1400.
In the center of the village is a "ducdalf" (dolphin) topped by
a statue of bronze flying birds.
