Flag: a red hoist and yellow fly; over all a blue diagonal stripe from hoist-top to fly-bottom of 1/3 flagheight; in hoist bottom a white lily.
The blue diagonal bar stands for the road from Dokkum to Holwerd, but refers also to the flag of the former municipality of Westdongeradeel (white diagonal bar on a blue field). Fleur de lis derived from the Coat of Arms of the Sjûksma family.

Waaxens Coat of Arms

[Waaxens vCoat of Arms] by Jarig Bakker, 4 May 2004

Description: "In gold a red, steep-roofed manorgate with in chief a silver fleur-de-lis; over all a narrowed blue crossbar".
The gate represents the main building of Waaxens, the "poarte" of the Sjûksma state (manor), with in top a fleu-de-lis from the Sjûksma family. It is very close to the main road, running from Dokkum to Holwerd - that road is represented by the blue bar, right diagonal tot refer to Westdongeradeel. Gold has been chosen for esthetic reasons.
