Renkum lies 20 km west of Arnhem in the southern Veluwe region.
The municipal archive was destroyed in the autumn of 1944, so it cannot
be established when the flag was adopted. The flag is derived from the
Coat of Arms, which has in its first quarter the white Hanover horse, reminding
of the times when the Saxons lived here under Wittekind (Widukind).
