Boerakker and Lucaswolde are two villages (technically: hamlets) in the
north of the municipality of Marum, Groningen province.
From this
webpage:
"The new village flag for Boerakker and Lucaswolde isn't yet a week
old but sells like sweetcakes. "I've sold half of 'em", Dirkje Visser of
Village Interests Boerakker/Lucaswolde said. Together with Jacques Drenth
en Jan Helder she worked hard to get a good design, and they think they've
got a good result. The flag shows among others a bull with a halo around
its head. "The winged bull is the emblem of Saint Luke, who gave his name
to a monk, who settled here in the Kuzemerklooster. Hence the name Lucoswolde
(Luke's wood)".
The flag can be bought for 15 Euros.
The Kuzemerklooster or Cuzemer Monastery was a Nunnery in the municipality
of Oldekerk, due north of Marum (and Lucaswolde and the rest) of the Premonstratensers,
founded by Herdericus in the 13th century, who was Provost of Berethe,
an old village which drowned in the Dollard. At high tide on 27 December
1287 60 virgins are said to have drowned in this nunnery.
The learned canon Sibrandus Leo fled in the time of iconoclasm from
the Lidlumer monastery to here, and died peacefully in 1588. A few years
later the monastery was sold to be demolished. A few remains can still
be seen.
The seal of this monastery is still kept in archivs of the city of
Groningen, and shows St. Mary with child Jesus; in chief an abbot, in his
right hand a crozier, in his left a haloed book. In base a praying, kneeled
holy man. On both sides an angel, winged with a barrel of incense. Legend:
S: (Sigillum) Sce: (Sancte) Marie in Cusemere (seal of St. Mary in Cuzemer)

"RTV Noord"
reported on 22 January 2010 the official validation of the villages' flag
and arms by the "Consulentschap voor de Heraldiek in Groningen" (the Grunninger
Heraldry Council).
The golden and red colours are taken from the arms of the noted local
Van Ewsum family. Its oldest known member, Ewe Ewesma, lived in the manor
of Ewsum.
The arms of the Van Ewsum family form the dexter part of the municipal
arms of Marum.
