Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 13.285; area: 38,25 km². Settlements: Montfoort (seat), Linschoten.
On 1 Jan 1989 the new municipality of Montfoort was formed after the merger of the former municipalities of Montfoort, Linschoten, and parts of Snelrewaard and Willeskop, as well as the neighbourhood of Achthoven (formerly in IJsselstein).
