Population (1 Jan 2003): 13.240; area: 6,37 km². Settlements: Rozenburg
The present municipal flag was adopted 23 Feb 1984 by municipal resolution.
Description: five vertical equally wide stripes of yellow and red,
with on the first red stripe two 8-leaved white roses, one above the other;
and on the second red stripe an opened white burgh, of which the heights
are respectively 3/10, and 4/10 of flagheight; the roses with red hearts.
The flag, which was derived from the municipal arms, was adopted because
the former municipal flag was dated in 1938. On 6 Sep 1938 a parade was
held in Amsterdam on the occasion of the 40 years reigning jubilee of Queen
Wilhelmina. All Zuid-Holland municipalities, which did not have their own
flag, were oresented with a flag consisting of two equally horizontal stripes
of red and yellow. Each municipality was required to put its Coat of Arms on the
flag. Rozenburg never did that.
