Coat of Arms

[COA of Randaberg]image by Tomislav Šipek, 20 October 2015

Randaberg's coat of arms and flag are blazoned in Norwegian: I blått 14 sølv mynter langs randen; that would say Azure 14 plates in orle. (or if you prefer "Azure 14 bezants argent in orle" to retain mentioning coins, and such expression is no unheard of, even if not in accordance with the strict traditional English heraldry.)
The symbols were approved by the royal resolution of 26 June 1981 after a drawing by Truls Nygaard preliminary design by Magnus Hardeland. The latter designed a number of other Norwegian municipal coat of arms/flags, and is a known Norwegian painter of portraits and landscapes (1905-1982). The former is a known heraldic expert, also author of a number of municipal arms, and cf. his bibliography on FOTW: [nyg64], [nyg66], [nyg74] (and hopefully some of our Norwegian contributors may tell us a bit more - as it seems that are a rock artistic of the same name that confuses the search engines over here.
The design is canting, as in "rand" - the orle, the border or edge (as being on the outer edge of the Boknafjord). The silver coins are said to represent pebbles, as could be found on the beaches and numerous burial mounds there.
